Writing the Most Dangerous Game
Writing the Most Dangerous GameMost dangerous game is the race to get your research paper published. This is an unbalanced game where, on one side of the board, we have the government and its regulations, rules and regulations, and on the other side of the board, we have peer reviewers. This unbalanced relationship leads to most of our research papers being rejected by the editors, and a small percentage being accepted. You see, I've been writing research papers for three decades, and have always written a minimum of two or three revisions before submitting my research paper to the library. As an editor, I've learned that not all the research papers submitted to the libraries are well-written, well-researched, and well-documented. The overwhelming majority of these submissions never get read.So how does one explain why the research presented in the majority of the academic journals in this country is unpublished? The answer, simply put, is that there are some groups of people in acade mia that want to keep their turf, and they fear the competition. Do you know what the biggest turf for them are? The most dangerous game?Research papers written by those with direct ties to the U.S. Government, or government agencies, or military intelligence, or the military, or academia, or major corporations, or industry are the most dangerous game because they're mostly government sponsored, and by definition, they're government sponsored research. This means that most of these papers are political, and/or opinion based, and/or biased. And all of these individuals and groups have a vested interest in keeping these types of research topics locked up. Which, as an editor, I really do not like.On the other hand, if you want to know about the 'Who's Who' of government research projects, you would have to go to the Library of Congress, and the National Security Agency. And those are not to be found in the Library of Congress. Most research paper topics are written by individuals who h ave no real direct knowledge of the subject matter. In fact, they are probably not educated in any manner of science, or in any scientific field. Instead, they may have some knowledge of the field that they wish to write about, but they rarely do any actual science, and in fact, often do little to nothing of any value to the writer. This makes them a real liability, and it also makes them prime candidates for becoming a victim of the most dangerous game. Most of the research paper topics I read through the grants website are written by government funded contractors, either working for the U.S. Army or Department of Defense, or they are working for defense contractors working for defense agencies. The authors are typically well-educated, well-educated persons, who have done some original research, and whose work has been reviewed by numerous people, and their work has been accepted by academic journals. But, the research paper topics that receive this level of acceptance are usually th e ones that are best researched, and that have the most citations. These are the research paper topics that are typically selected by government entities, such as agencies and departments, or defense and intelligence contractors.
